It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Father and Friend, Paul Gregory Moroso. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81 on July 7, 2017 following a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Paul was born in Castlegar, B.C. on November 18, 1935 to Mary Sopow and William Marozoff. He lived in Castlegar with his older brothers Billy and Fred and attended Pass Creek Elementary School. He graduated from SHSS in 1953. He earned his CGA accounting degree in 1960 and started his career in Vancouver working for Canadian Pacific Airlines where he met and married Mae Holleywood. After returning to Castlegar, they started a family and he built a successful career in the accounting field with MacBeth & Moroso, which ultimately led to the CGA partnership, Moroso, Markin & Blain. Paul also held the position of Governor for the CGA Association of B.C. In the early 1970’s, Paul obtained his license as a Trustee and throughout the years helped many companies and individuals through financial difficulties. Later in life, Paul remarried Helen Alton.
Paul was involved in many personal business ventures in the community, including the first Datsun car dealership in Western Canada, and as an ownership partner in Castlegar’s Hi Arrow Arms and Trail’s Arlington Hotel. He was greatly involved with the initial financing and building of the Castlegar Golf Course. He was Past President of the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society, and was a member of the Castlegar Legion and Rotary Club. He was always interested in politics and ran for the Federal Member of Parliament in 1972 for the Liberal Party. Among many things he enjoyed golf, hockey, singing, debating, poems, travelling, and bad jokes.
Paul is survived by his three children, Greg, Teresa (Mike), Peter (Kam) and his six grandchildren, Chelsey and Scott (Teresa); Sydney, William, Rebecca and Sarah (Peter), and his sister Nettie (Andy) Stupnikoff.
The family is especially grateful and would like to acknowledge the unbelievable staff at both Castleview Care Centre and Castle Wood Village for their caring and kindness to Paul. We’re sure his songs and smile will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 1:30 at the Castlegar Golf Course at 1602 Aaron Road, Ootischenia. The family invites all friends to attend and requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation for research be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC (www.alzheimer.ca).
We love you and miss you Dad. Safe and peaceful journey.
