Silva Al obit pic

March 15th, 1927 – May 27th, 2019

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Albino Rosa Silva, on May 27th, 2019.

Albino was born on March 15th, 1927 in Sao Miguel, Azores Islands, Portugal to Jose and Maria Silva. He was born into a large family and was one of seven children. He was predeceased by his sisters Isabel, Mary, Elzira, Aurelia and brother Jose and is survived by Gabriel and Carolina.

Albino met and married his wife Maria in Pico, Azores Islands, where they had their son, Jorge. Albino immigrated to Canada in 1957 and was one of the first Portuguese pioneers to immigrate from his hometown. He was part of the second group of immigrants to come to Canada to work for the railroad. His wife Maria and son Jorge then immigrated in 1959 and joined him in the east Kootenays where they added two more sons to the family (Laureno and Albino Jr.) He continued working for the railroad until the family resettled in Castlegar where he gained employment at West Star Timber. Albino went on to sponsor other family members to help them to immigrate to Canada.

Albino spent many hours woodworking in his garage and tending to their beautiful garden. He was fond of cooking and enjoyed traveling with his wife Maria throughout BC and Alberta.

Albino was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Maria, whom passed away in December of 2018.

Albino will be lovingly remembered by his friends and family, Jorge (Theresa), grandchildren Graham and Brayden, Laureno (Gail), Ryan, Kyle, Tyler and Alysha, Albino Jr. (Shelley), Lauren and Adrian and many great grandchildren.
