With sad hearts the family of Anne Polonikoff, of Castlegar (formerly of Blueberry Creek), wishes to announce her passing at Talarico Place Care Centre on Monday, April 22, 2019, at the age of 87 years.
Anne was born in Thrums, BC on November 11, 1931 to parents Fred and Helen Savinkoff. When she was 5 years old, the family moved to Winlaw, where Anne grew up and attended school up to grade 8. In 1953, she married John Polonikoff and the young couple moved to Slocan Park, where they had 3 children.
In 1968, the family moved to Blueberry Creek, where they lived for the next 32 years. Besides looking after their home and family, Anne worked for 27 years as a sales clerk at the Cut-Rate Groceteria and later at Central Foods. In 2000, she moved to Stellar place and lived there for the next 11 years. Unfortunately after breaking a hip, Anne never fully recovered and spent the remainder of her life at Talarico Place.
She was a hardworking devoted, generous and loving mother and for 20 years volunteered at Castleview Care Centre and the Hospital Auxiliary.
Anne was predeceased by her husband John, brother Andrew, sister-law Elsie, brother-in-law Fred Bartsoff and 3 nephews.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughter Christine (Bill) Strilaeff, daughter Connie (Derek) Pilecki, son Marvin (Grace) Polonikoff, four grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Pollie Bartsoff, a nephew, two nieces and many friends.
Funeral services were officiated by Peter Zaytsoff at the Brilliant Cultural Centre on Monday, April 29, 2019 and cremation followed. A family interment at Park Memorial Cemetery will take place at a later date.
