April 16, 1955 – August 7, 2016
Theresa Carter passed suddenly and unexpectedly from this earthly plane on Sunday, August 7th, 2016. Born to Norbina and Silvino Carreiro (deceased), Theresa is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, David Carter, son Jason, and daughter Christina, her brother Jorge, and her sisters Norbina and Silvia. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores Portugal, Theresa and her family left Portugal when she was 8 years old, moving to Canyon, BC and then moving and settling in Castlegar, BC.
Theresa is known as many things to many people but most notably she was loving, intelligent, generous, and perpetually kind. Theresa had the largest heart when it came to her family and friends. She loved to laugh and was able to find the humor in most situations. Her infectious laughter would always be shared with her family, especially with her sister, Norbina. She was an exquisite conversationalist, she was always able to empathize and offer insight. Her wisdom was shared with many.
Theresa was a major part of her community, offering many years of volunteering commitment to community organizations and to the Catholic Church. Theresa loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice, her family loved to listen to her sing traditional Portuguese songs in their home. Theresa was an avid reader and always valued education and the pursuit of self-improvement. She enjoyed to travel and had recently returned to Portugal and the Island of Madeira with Dave, where they were able to truly embrace and enjoy her heritage and culture.
She will be dearly missed by many and never forgotten. She will live on in our hearts forever.
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” – Jane Goodall
