Christopher Runions

December 8, 1950 –  June 25, 2019

It is with heavy hearts the family of Chris Runions announces his passing at KBRH on June 25, 2019 after a very short battle with cancer, with his wife Sue by his side.

Chris was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Arne and Theresa Runions on December 8, 1950. He grew up as a typical young boy in Canada in the 50/60’s, playing hockey & other sports as much as possible.  He was an avid Montreal Canadians fan.

Chris graduated grade 13 in Hamilton and then received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mathematics from McMaster University.   After graduating from McMaster, Chris took a position as a teacher, however, did not want to go to Teachers College so part way through the year, he had the opportunity to travel West when his eldest sister and her family were going to Vancouver.  Chris took a job in a European Health spa, before finding his career employment with CIBC.  He met his first wife Judy in Vancouver and she joined him on his new journey as a Manager with CIBC.  His 30 year career with CIBC started in West Vancouver as a Manager in Training, and then as a Manager which took him to places such as; Bella Coola, Valemont, Terrace, and then Castlegar BC.   Castlegar is the place that Chris met the love of his life, wife/friend/and confidante, Sue.  Together and apart, he enjoyed playing slow pitch, bowling, curling and golfing. Chris volunteered on both the Seniors Curling Club Executive and the Castlegar Golf Club Executive as Treasurer. Chris was always happiest when spending time with his children and many grandchildren.

Left behind to suffer the loss of his love and humour, his wife Sue of 25yrs, daughters Danielle (Darren); Aleta (Vince); Robyn; Son Stephen (Kayla); Step Daughters Teri Giles (Jason); Kristy Keus (Cody); grandsons, Lucas, Kalin, Aiden, Jaleb, granddaughters, Kayla, Ella, Ryan, Jasmine, Zoey, Lily, Willow, Bella, Kalla, Madison, Brooklyn, sister Linda (Mitch), father-in-law, Don Leitch, sisters-in-law Rhonda (Robert), Tracey, brother-in-law, Jason Leitch (Sandra), & his beloved four legged companion Bailey.

Chris was pre-deceased by his father Arne, his mother Theresa, and his younger sister Debbie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22/19 at the family home – 1517 Grandview Drive Castlegar B.C. between 3:00 – 5:30 pm.

A special thank you to all the wonderful nurses at KBRH and VGH for the gentle care they gave Chris in his last two months of life. He couldn’t have been in better hands.  Thank you also to the house doctors at KBRH for caring for Chris when he didn’t have his own physician available.

There are no words to thank those special people who have been by Sue’s side helping her along the way, but you all know who you are and thank you is all I can say.
