November 17th, 1923 – July 11th, 2016
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Fred. He was born on November 17th, 1923 near Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. Fred was the eldest son of Wasyl and Polly Osachoff.
In 1943, Fred’s family relocated, making their new home overlooking the Slocan River at Vallican, BC.
Fred married Mabel Zaytsoff of Slocan Park, November 27th, 1947. Fred and Mabel have three children. Kathryn, Jeannie and Fred Jr.
Fred worked mainly in the forest industry with Burns Lumber Company, Passmore Lumber Company and the in the construction industry with Dillingham Construction, where he remained until retirement.
Fred and Mabel were blessed with 6 grandchildren: Chris (Tori) Sherbinin, Derek (Lisa) Sherbinin, Kelli Sherbinin (Darren Butler), Sherri (Gary) McPherson, Erin Argatoff (Kari Daniel) and Robert (Kayla) Argatoff and 11 great grandchildren….Jacob, Riley, Liam and Lucas Sherbinin, Myla Jade Butler, Kate and Anya McPherson, Ella, Tiegan, Donovan and Grace Argatoff.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Mabel, daughters Kathryn (Collin) Sherbinin, Jeannie Argatoff, and son Fred (Cheryl) Osachoff, his six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Polly in 1990 and Wasyl in 1992, his brother John in 2006, a great grandson in infancy, son-in-law David Wassick in 2014 and his brother Nick in 2015.
The family would like to thank relatives, friends and community members for their love and support during this difficult time. A very special and heartfelt thank-you to Bill Strilaeff and all the staff at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service was held in Fred’s memory Monday, July 18th, 2016 @10:00 a.m., Brilliant Cultural Center, Brilliant, BC. Interment at Slocan Park Cemetery.
May God accept him into his Heavenly Kingdom.
