March 31, 1930 – February 7, 2017
It is with great sadness the family of Eleanor Holdsworth announce her passing on the afternoon of February 7, 2017 with family gathered around her. She was greatly loved and will live in our hearts and memories forever.
Eleanor was born to parents George (Gottliebe) Hirt and Gertrude (Parnaby) Hirt in Kimberley, B.C. on March 31, 1930.
She was the younger sister of Gerald (Jerry) Hirt.
Eleanor attended all her schooling in Kimberley and after graduation she attended Business school in Nelson, taking a two year course before returning to live in Kimberley full time. She worked part time as a secretary for CM&S in Kimberley and married Frank Holdsworth on November 10, 1950.
Together they raised five children and after leaving Kimberley to live in Cranbrook for a few years, they moved to Castlegar in 1965 where they settled in for the next (fifty two) years.
Eleanor was a dedicated wife and mother and was very involved in the life of her family. She was a beautiful seamstress, a great cook and was known to her children’s childhood friends’ for her delicious cookies. She could make pies like no other! She was a talented pianist and played the piano for many years at Castlegar United Church and for the residents at Talarico Place when the CUC offered Sunday service there.
Eleanor was an avid bowler and belonged to the Tuesday morning coffee league for 45 years. She was a Rotary Ann, volunteered with the local Air Cadets 581 squadron, and played Bridge with her ladies club for many years.
Eleanor loved being a mother and was thrilled to be a grandmother when the time arrived. She created care bear dolls for every grandchild and let her love be shown with endless hugs.
Frank and Eleanor have been blessed with 18 grandchildren and 20 great grand children. They celebrated (66) years of marriage in 2016 with a small gathering of family and memories of that day are of Eleanor showing signs of great happiness with smiles all around.
Mom lived the last (few Years) of her life as a resident of Talarico Place in Castlegar BC. She lived with dementia as gracefully as was possible.
Eleanor was deeply loved by Frank and by all of her family. She will be greatly missed.
Her greatest sorrow was the loss of her eldest child, daughter, Susan, in March of 2009.
Thank you Mom for your loving heart, your kind ways and your forever hugs.
