It is with great sadness that the family of Ivan Grewcock announces his passing at the age of 93 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully on January 14, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
Ivan was born in Birch Hills Saskatchewan March 21, 1926 and was one of nine children born to William and Edith Grewcock. He was predeceased by both parents and siblings; Mavis, Mable, Victor, Chuck, Dora, Myra, Bill, and Art.
He met the love of his life Jean, in 1946. They married in 1947 and moved that same year to what was then known as Kinnaird, BC. He was employed at Cominco Mining and Smelting in Trail, BC until he retired in 1983. He was also a volunteer fireman in Castlegar for many years.
Ivan had a great love for hunting and made it a tradition to go back to Saskatchewan every fall with his eldest son Earl to duck hunt. He also loved horses and helped his son Wayne with hayrides in the winter. He enjoyed Christina Lake where he spent most of his summers fishing, watering the lawn, mowing the lawn, and raking the driveway-which he loved to do!
Ivan is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jean; children Earl (Linda), Wayne (Sandy), Norma (Peter), Dale (Donna); 11 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren and a Great Great Granddaughter. His children and grandchildren were truly the lights in his life!
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his gentle kind soul.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Ivan’s memory may be made to BC Cancer Kelowna, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5L3, 1-250-712-3900, 1-800-563-7300.
A memorial service will be held at the Pentecostal New Life Assembly Church in Castlegar Monday January 20, 2020 at 11:30 am.
Castlegar Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
