1930 – 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Koorbatoff on September 23, 2017. Alex was born on March 2, 1930 in Glade, BC to Andrew and Gloria Koorbatoff. In 1955 he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Nichvolodoff. Together they raised four daughters: Anne, Olga, Lorraine and Natalie. In 1961 the family moved across the river to Shoreacres.
Alex worked in the Okanagan in his younger years in the packing houses and orchards, on the Glade Ferry, and then apprenticed as a draftsman and land surveyor. He later worked on the High Arrow Dam and retired from BC Hydro in the late 1980’s.
Alex was a family man. He loved his family very much and was very proud of them. He always made their well being and happiness a priority.
From his youth, Alex was a USCC member and participated on many committees, including the ISKRA editorial board and the Shoreacres cemetery committee.
Alex is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; daughters Anne (Steve) Brown, Olga (Patrick) Kelly, Lorraine (Ben) Legebokoff, and Natalie (Nigel) Parton; grandchildren Kayla (Riley) Marcotte, Peter, Ian, Richard, Grace, David, Emily, Rachel, Spencer, Malachi, Isaiah, Eliana and Avalea; and great-grandchildren Jordyn, Brooklyn and Ryden. He is also survived by nieces Florence (Harry) Hadikin and Gloria (George) Steed, as well as numerous other relatives.
We would like to express our appreciation to the Psalm Singers, Shoreacres Ladies Cooking Club, grave diggers and the amazing Nelson Hospital staff (including doctors, nurses, dietary and care aides and housekeeping staff) that were involved in Dad’s care, and the staff of Castlegar Funeral Chapel. We would also like to thank the visitors who came by the hospital to encourage and converse with Dad.
Funeral service was held September 28, 10:00 am at the Shoreacres Hall. Interment at Shoreacres cemetery.
Dad: We love you, you are forever in our hearts, and you will never be forgotten.
“Sarstva nebesnaya.”

I was very sorry to hear of Alex’s passing. I only knew him for a short time during my stay in the hospital. He was a good room mate and I enjoyed his company. He will be missed by many.
