Koorbatoff, Fred

Koorbatoff photo for obit

January 23, 1956 – October 3, 2016

On Monday October 3rd, 2016 Frederick Peter Koorbatoff, amazing, loving husband, Dad, Deda, friend and neighbour left this earth to fish with the angels.

Fred was born on January 23, 1956 in Nelson BC, to Pearl & Peter Koorbatoff of Glade BC. Fred moved with his family to Shoreacres, BC when he was 8 years old. Always planning and thinking ahead; Fred began his dream of building a legacy for his family. In 1974 Fred married his best friend and fishing buddy, Carol. Soon after, their family grew by 2 sons, Fred and Ben. Fred & Carol raised their boys on the family property instilling the meaning of a job well done, the importance of family and a well-timed joke.

Fred valued hard work and worked harder than anyone at all the jobs he held; whether it was operating equipment at the pulp mill, standing up for his PPWC union brothers and his fellow injured workers, or building a fence on his land. Fred also believed there should be time to play; with his own boys, the community baseball teams and especially with his grandchildren. Fred looked forward to their annual fishing trips to Port Alberni. BC and their winter break on the beach of Waikiki. He shared his love of fishing with his family charting countless fishing adventures on Kootenay Lake and the many local rivers. Fred enjoyed what he considered the finer things in life, a huge bonfire, a cold beer, sitting on his quad, his tractor or in his truck surveying their land. His love of life, family and sense of humor will live on forever in our hearts.

Fred is survived by his wife Carol, son Fred & daughter in law Erin, son Ben, and 5 amazing grandchildren (Deda’s Ducks) Brody, Morgan, Riley, Rachel and Nathan; his sisters Florence (Harry) Hadikin & Gloria (George) Steed, his brother Joe (Laurie) Hlookoff, and sister in law Irene Hlookoff, his uncle Alex (Mary) Koorbatoff and his in-laws Bill & Lola Cheveldave, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and brother George Hlookoff and his little white dog Peaches.
A Celebration of Fred’s colourful life was held on Friday October 14th at the Kinnaird Park Community Church in Castlegar.

Fred will be forever loved and never more than a smile away ………

Arrangements in care of Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
