It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Messenger, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who died Dec. 1, 2016, at the age of 92.

Jane was born in Champion Creek, B.C., May 6, 1924, to Alex and Lucy Popoff.

She and her husband Ken lived for many years in Fruitvale, where they raised their children. They moved to Slocan in 1991.

Jane will be greatly missed by her family: her brother, Alex Popoff; her children, Tim (Teri); May (Jack), Eileen, Jim, and Cynthia ; grandchildren Braden Messenger (Dawn), Jeremy Messenger, Kimberly Messenger, Tracy Montgomery (Mike), and Devin Brown; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Morgan, Matthias, Alexa, Jaden, Kylan, Kassia, Addisyn and Brooklyn; nieces Sharon Deyotte (Doug), and Linda Bauder; great-nephews Clark Winsor, Alex Winsor, and Jeffrey Bauder.

Jane was pre-deceased by her brother Peter and her sisters, Ann and Pauline, and in 2007 by her beloved husband Ken.

A private funeral was held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on December 7, 2016.

Condolences for the family of “Messenger, Jane”

Condolence from Marg Salmon on December 21st, 2016 9:57 am

May and Tim, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Loosing a parent is so difficult. I trust that your belief system will help you through the grieving as well as knowing friends support you.

Condolence from Marijke (Veenstra) Merrick on February 19th, 2017 12:23 pm

May, it is with sadness that I found your Mom’s obituary today. I remember her from the fun times we had when you and i had “sleepovers” during our junior high days in Fruitvale. It leaves such a hole in our lives when we lose our mother. It has been such a long time since we have connected with each other, but the memories I have are good ones. Marijke
