Mike Poohachoff

Mike Poohachoff, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on September 7, 2020at the age of 87.

Dad was born in Winlaw to parents William and Irene. He was the fourth of seven children.

He was an impish child, always following his big brother and big sisters wherever they would go, much to their dismay.

Dad met his best friend, mom, in 1958 and they were married in November of 1959. They built a home in Beasley where they resided until building in Shoreacres, to raise their five children.

After high school, dad worked various jobs including working at Wood Vallance Hardware. From there he worked at Mitchell Supply in Castlegar for the rest of his career which lasted 33 years.

Dad had a great sense of humor as noted when his grandchildren would ask how he was and he would reply, “still on this side of the grass.”

He enjoyed fishing, tending to the garden with mom, bus trips to Reno, and the occasional visit to the local casino. He was thrilled to go to Las Vegas for his retirement with mom, courtesy of the Mitchell’s gang.

Predeceased by his parents, his older brother Bill and older sister Anne. He is survived by sisters Mary, Nancy and Ruby and brother Walter.

Dad is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gertie; son Wayne (partner Odette); daughter Christine (husband Len); daughter Valerie (husband Bill); son Mitchell (wife Louise); and son Ken (partner Ruby). He is also survived by grandchildren: Britt, Kiri, Elise, Colton and Kylie and great granddaughter Lexi (his little sunshine). And his buddy Stori.

We would like to thank Drs. Goodman, McBride and Kennedy and clinic staff, 3rd floor nurses and the doctors and staff in the Emergency Ward at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Also a thank you to the Wal-Mart Pharmacy.

Dad, may the fishing be good, the company even better and the BIG ONE never get away.

Thank you for being our dad. Rest in peace.

Private graveside service.
