February 4, 1953 – April 25, 2018
Roger was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick. After a long battle with health issues, he passed at Talarico Place in Castlegar, British Columbia at age 65.
Roger’s family was his greatest source of pride: his parents the late Owen Orser and Audrey (nee Nixon) and his siblings Judith (Stuart) Oulton, Patricia Orser, Kathryn (Freeman, pre-deceased) Perry, and Kevin (Cathy) Orser.
Roger married Maureen (nee Drost) on May 11, 1974. (Maureen is known as Sweetie Pie to most who worked with Roger). They were blessed with two sons, Jerrad (Brooke) and Joshua (pre-deceased at age 6 months), and two grandsons, the joy of Grampy’s life, Kaleb and Keegan.
Roger was well respected in his career as a steam plant power engineer at various mills throughout his life. He felt the most fulfilled at Zellstoff Celgar near Castlegar, as the Area Manager, Power and Recovery Chief Engineer. Castlegar is in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia located within the Selkirk Mountains at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers. The beauty and serenity that surrounded him here suggested that this would be his place of retirement.
Roger would always say you should be calm, gather all your facts, then make your decision. He was a humble man, who focused his energy on others. He built strong relationships and excelled as a leader. He was conscientious, letting his moral compass guide his decision-making. He saw happiness as a journey. He knew that good things lay ahead, and he was okay waiting for them.
There will be no service, as per Roger’s request. However, his family would love to hear about how Roger may have impacted anyone who knew him.
If so desired, donations can be made to BC Hospice Palliative Care Association at bchpca.org or a Charity of your choice.
