January 29, 2020
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Ruby Partridge on January 29, 2020, at the age of 86.
Ruby was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan in 1933 to Benny and Emma Ellingson. She graduated from the University of Alberta School of Nursing in 1955 and began her nursing career at Shaunavon Hospital. It was there that Ruby met a dashing young RCMP officer named Stan, who swept her off her feet. They married in 1957, and moved to Prince George, British Columbia. From there, Ruby, Stan and their three children lived in various communities throughout BC where Stan was stationed, with Ruby continuing to work as a nurse. During this period they had many rollicking adventures and made numerous lifelong friends. They eventually settled for good in Castlegar in 1972.
Ruby was a tireless volunteer in the Castlegar community, donating her time to, among others, the Castlegar Community Library, Rotary Club, Eastern Star, St. David’s Anglican Church, the Canadian Red Cross Society, and the Canadian Cancer Society. She had a keen intellect and a well-developed sense of humour. She loved to travel, read, paint, garden, and spend time with her many friends and family. She was a selfless, caring person and even when dealt hardship remained strong and positive.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Stan in 2004, their granddaughter Rhianna in 1985, as well as her sisters and brother. Left to mourn her loss are her children: Jane (Mike), Larry (Joanne), and Julianne (Brad), as well as her grandchildren Graham, Chantal, Christian, Nicolas, William, Melina, and Genevieve, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

I will miss Ruby. But, I have very fond memories of being her library volunteer buddy.

I’ll cherish her memory and that I was fortunate to have known her
